From my journal: April 3, 2010
I want to tell you about a great experience I had last night that will probably remain one of my favorite moments of the past year and a half. Niriti and I both decided we were sick of eating rice, so for dinner I offered to put together a meal from my most recent care packages and teach her how to eat ripelle food. We sat at the desk in my room and ate from a smorgasbord of the following foods: Easy Cheese from Grandma, squeezed onto Nutrition Biscuits (which have absolutely no nutritional value despite what the name may imply) purchased from the Ine store, the remaining frosting from my birthday cakes also spread on the biscuits, beef jerky and dried fruit from Andy, all washed down with hot tea from Jessica.
Niriti’s favorites were the beef jerky and the frosting. She was a little skeptical about the squishy dried fruit. It was really fun sitting and eating and gossiping about boys and just chatting about other aspects of Ine life. I also discovered that even better than hording my secret stash of food in my room and hiding away with the door closed while eating it, is sharing it and making that connection with people while they “study” eating weird ripelle food.
